Defending Canada

Our Military Heritage Sites and Buildings

The Heritage Canada Foundation is proud to present Heritage 2004: Defending Canada; Our Military Heritage Sites and Buildings, an educational resource kit for Teachers, Youth Leaders and Heritage Groups.  Canada’s historic military heritage places are vital to the history of our communities and our nation.  Every community has significant military historic places be they defence buildings, cenotaphs, or street names.

The Heritage 2004: Defending Canada; Our Military Heritage Sites and Buildings education kit explores some significant examples of these places and is available from the Heritage Canada Foundation.  It consists of a colour poster, together with a bilingual teacher’s guide dedicated to the 2004 theme.

Heritage Day will be celebrated on Monday, February 16, 2004.  Many communities will also celebrate Heritage Week and Heritage Month.

The Heritage Canada Foundation, also known as Heritage Canada, is a registered charity and national membership based organization dedicated to understanding, protecting and using wisely the heritage architecture and historic places of Canada.  Since 1973, Heritage Canada has bestowed awards on Canadians for outstanding contributions to heritage conservation, and helped to sensitize youth about their work as stewards of our heritage.

The Heritage Canada Foundation thanks the Canadian War Museum for permission to reproduce “Wing Headquarters, Camp Borden” by Frank Johnson, and “HMCS Vancouver Alongside, Esquimalt” by Rowley Walter Murphy, and for its cooperation and collaboration in Heritage 2004.
