Political Scientist, Financial Advisor and Provincial Archivist Join Heritage Canada Foundation Board of Governors

Ottawa, Ontario, November 28, 2011 - The Heritage Canada Foundation is pleased to announce three important additions to its board of governors: Tom Urbaniak of Nova Scotia, and Peter Buckley and Marion Beyea of New Brunswick.

A political scientist at Cape Breton University, Tom Urbaniak works at the intersection of heritage conservation policy, community economic development, social policy and non-profit sector governance, and brings his inter-sectoral creative approach to the board. Tom has written practical briefs on federal heritage tax incentives and on amendments to Nova Scotia’s Heritage Property Act.

Tom serves on the boards of the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia and the Old Sydney Society.

Peter Buckley is a partner with Buckley Patterson Asset Management, an independent financial consulting firm, and has been in the financial services industry as an advisor for 27 years. For the past five years, he has served on the Heritage Canada Foundation’s Finance & Investment Committee. Peter lives in Rothesay where he is involved in several charities and community organizations.

Provincial archivist and director of the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick since 1978, Marion Beyea manages an integrated program of information management and archival services. She has served on a number of professional boards including as founding president of the Canadian Council of Archives, president of the Association of Canadian Archivists, and New Brunswick’s representative on the Historic Sites and Monuments Board (1987-1993). Marion is a member of the Fredericton Heritage Trust, where she has assisted in a variety of community-based heritage projects.

Ross Keith of Saskatchewan returns to the board for a second term and was elected its vice-chair. Ross is president of Nicor Group, a Regina real estate development company which has successfully developed many heritage properties in Regina. He is a founding director and lifetime member of Heritage Regina and served as its chair for five years.
