The National Trust Congratulates Main Street Saskatchewan

Ottawa, ON, November 21, 2014 – The National Trust for Canada congratulates the Province of Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport upon accepting 11 new communities into its Main Street Saskatchewan program.

“Main Street is one of the National Trust’s most effective Regeneration tools,” says executive director Natalie Bull. “Saskatchewan’s expansion of the program reflects real results in communities that we hope will inspire other provinces.”

As a partner organization working collaboratively to provide training, advisory and networking services, National Trust staff look forward to assisting Main Street Saskatchewan staff, and the people of Swift Current, Melfort,  Spiritwood, Regina, Watrous, Kerrobert, Nipawin, Humboldt, Moose Jaw, Shellbrook, and Langenburg on the regeneration of their unique, historic downtowns. They join with the initial Main Street demonstration towns of Indian Head, Maple Creek, and Wolseley and the City of Prince Albert in delivering the proven Main Street approach to their respective communities.

Main Street® Canada is an on-going, community-driven program that works to revitalize historic downtowns and commercial districts. It uses heritage as a revitalization tool that underpins strategies for design, economic development, marketing and promotion, and organizational development. Since the National Trust launched the program in Canada in 1979, it has helped hundreds of communities build new sustainable futures.
