Îlot St-Nicolas
Québec (Québec)
One of the most ambitious of the National Trust for Canada’s joint ventures was the Îlot St-Nicolas development in Québec City's lower town, where, in co-operation with local architects and a Montreal engineering firm, the National Trust helped to restore two fire-damaged blocks. The site is situated close to the St. Lawrence River and the city’s impressive historic railway station.
The National Trust retained part of the development – a 1670 property at 11, rue de l'Ancien-Chantier – restoring two adjacent buildings one of which it leases to the Fondation Rues principales for use as its headquarters.
