Renewed Funding for NHS Cost-sharing Program

HCNT Welcomes Parks Canada’s renewed commitment of National Historic Sites Cost-Sharing Program

Ottawa, ON, December 18, 2013 – Heritage Canada The National Trust (HCNT) welcomes Environment Minister Leona Aglukkaq’s announcement of the federal government’s renewed commitment to Parks Canada’s National Historic Sites Cost-Sharing Program. Through financial contributions, the Program shares the cost of work needed to stabilize, restore and repair non-federally owned national historic sites.

Total funding available under the Cost-Sharing Program will be $1 million, which will cover up to 50% of eligible costs to a maximum of $100,000 per project.

“This is welcome news,” said executive director Natalie Bull. “This funding will help renew some of Canada’s irreplaceable historic sites – places that shape our identity, create jobs, and attract tourist dollars.”

Applications are encouraged for projects that are linked to significant national anniversaries being celebrated in the next few years and must be submitted to Parks Canada by January 27, 2014. Program Guidelines are available online.
