National Trust Welcomes Funding Announcement for Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program

Ottawa, ON May 15, 2015 – The National Trust for Canada welcomes today’s announcement of $150 million for the new Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, which will provide essential support for community and cultural infrastructure across the country as a way to help celebrate the sesquicentennial of Canada’s Confederation.

The Program is expected to support up to 1,800 projects, providing funding for the renovation, expansion and rehabilitation of existing infrastructure that creates community, cultural and heritage benefits for the public. Eligible recipients include provinces, territories, municipal and regional governments, Aboriginal organizations and not-for-profit organizations. Selected projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2017.

“This investment in existing infrastructure is an opportunity to invest in Canada’s bricks and mortar heritage, where the need is great,” said the National Trust’s Executive Director Natalie Bull. “Communities across the country will welcome this regeneration opportunity that will give old places new life and help make landmarks, not landfill—long after the fireworks fade.”

Applicants can submit their applications online through their respective regional economic development agencies: Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, Western Economic Diversification and Industry Canada (Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario).
