HCF Welcomes Federal Investment in Canadian History

Ottawa, ON, June 13, 2013 – Heritage Canada Foundation (HCF) is pleased to report a series of new measures announced by the Hon. James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, totalling $12 million annually to help promote Canadian history.

The new measures include the creation of Canada History Week, beginning the week of July 1, 2013; Canada History Fund, to support new projects and existing programs; and improved assistance for Department of Canadian Heritage programs, which allow for easier access to financial support for organizations that promote Canadian history.

“We welcome this significant investment in our history which will help build a legacy for Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017,” said executive director Natalie Bull. “The years leading up to Canada’s Centennial in 1967 awakened Canadians to the importance of their past, which led to the formation of many organizations that continue to work for the conservation of our heritage.”
