Board Member Appointed to Order of Canada

The National Trust Congratulates Board Member Bruce McNiven on his appointment to the Order of Canada

Ottawa, ON – August 1, 2014 – Heritage Canada The National Trust congratulates Mr. Bruce McNiven, C.M., on his recent appointment to the Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest civilian honours. Mr. McNiven was recognized by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, for his broad and sustained commitment to the preservation and flourishing of Montreal’s culture and heritage.

A Montreal business lawyer who is counsel to DS Welch Bussieres LLP and active in a wide range of community and national not-for-profit organizations, Mr. McNiven is a Trustee of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, a member of the Board and officer of Heritage Montreal Foundation, and President of the Drummond Foundation. In the 1980s and 1990s, he led an award-winning development business that rehabilitated a number of important Montreal landmarks, including Fire Station No. 28 (c.1909); the Ravenscrag Gatehouse (c.1870); and the Reford House (c.1910). More recently, he has been involved in community and business-based non-profit initiatives to give threatened heritage properties a sustainable future, notably the rehabilitation of Notman House (c.1840), recently launched as a technology start-up campus for young entrepreneurs.

Mr. McNiven brings his passion and broad range of experience to his commitment to conserve the cultural and architectural heritage of Montreal, and the rest of Canada.

In 2013, Mr. McNiven was elected to the Board of Governors of Heritage Canada The National Trust. Members of the National Trust’s board and staff extend their congratulations to Bruce McNiven on this award.
