2012 Gabrielle Léger Award Winner

Ottawa, ON September 27, 2012 – Heritage Canada Foundation (HCF) New Brunswick governor, Ms. Marion Beyea, will be announcing Mr. Jim Bezanson as the recipient of the 2012 Gabrielle Léger Award for Lifetime Achievement in Heritage Conservation at a media event in Saint John today.

Ms. Beyea will welcome dozens of guests to the Saint John Arts Centre (former Carnegie Library), 20 Hazen Avenue, at 10:30 a.m.

HCF’s national awards jury was unanimous in accepting the nomination of Jim Bezanson for this prestigious award. Over the course of the 36 years that Mr. Bezanson has been involved in the conservation field, he has been an ardent heritage advocate, educator, conference speaker, volunteer, architect, planner, heritage consultant, heritage building contractor, and developer. As heritage development officer with the City of Saint John for the past 21 years he has played a key role in shaping the city’s heritage movement. His extensive technical knowledge and balanced approach to safeguarding Canada’s cultural assets has made him a highly sought-after speaker and adviser country-wide. 

The Gabrielle Léger Award is Canada’s premier honour for outstanding individual service to the country in the cause of heritage conservation. The award will be formally presented to Mr. Bezanson during HCF’s National Awards Ceremony and Reception in Montreal on Friday, October 12, 2012 at St. George’s Anglican Church National Historic Site by the Hon. Pierre Duchesne, Lieutenant Governor of Quebec.
